Sleep: How to actually get some

Sleep: How to actually get some and get a better night’s sleep

Sleep. Sometime it seems to literally escape us. We can either get to sleep but not stay asleep, or have difficulty falling asleep. Some of us have no troubles falling asleep but it’s the quality of our zzz’s that is our issue, as we wake up feeling tired. Not getting enough quality shut eye not only makes us grumpy, but it makes it harder to concentrate, we have less patience, our ability to concentrate is reduced and we have less energy. In short it affects the quality of our life, and the lives of people around us.

Lack of quality time with the Sandman is also linked to an increase in depression and anxiety, and obesity and a decrease in in the functioning of our immune system. We need sleep to repair our bodies, rest our mind and to function.

But you know that already right? You’ve tried warm milk and chamomile tea before bed, and frankly, you’re frustrated. It’s not as if you had a cup of coffee before bed… but you may have an addiction to Netflix or read a book on your ipad before you go to bed. You’ve got to try something right?

Nothing seems to work and you’re so damn tired, you find memes on the internet hilarious. Heck you probably already have these saved on your camera roll on your phone from when you screenshotted them in the middle of the night, and may have even snarkily posted one on Facebook or Instagram wondering if in fact anyone gave a damn. (I know, they didn’t).

indigestion

Experiencing indigestion?

Experiencing indigestion and abdominal discomfort ?

indigestion

Are you experiencing indigestion and abdominal discomfort? Indigestion is a consequence of our busy modern lifestyle. You’re not alone in experiencing this! In our busy modern lifestyles many of us grab a bite to eat on the run. We load up with coffee during the day for energy and relax with a few glasses of wine at night. We know we should eat a combination of raw and cooked foods, and lots of fruits and vegetables, however, the reality is often far from this. We can end up feeling bloated and uncomfortable and experiencing indigestion, sometimes in the form of heartburn and reflux.

What is heartburn? It is a form of indigestion. According to Health Direct “some people experience heartburn regardless of what they eat. Others find they only get it after eating certain foods or meals”. Common triggers for heartburn include:

  • large meals
  • fatty or spicy foods
  • coffee and cola drinks
  • citrus foods
  • alcohol
  • chocolate
  • cigarettes
  • peppermints.

Other things that can increase your risk of heartburn are:

  • being overweight or obese
  • being pregnant
  • taking certain medications (check with your doctor).

A recent study as outlined in the video below by the Seven Network shows that many pharmaceutical drugs have adverse side affects that increase the risk of your death by 25%! Now that’s a large risk to take for indigestion!

Digestive health is a prime concern for many people—according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH), approximately 60 to 70 million people are affected by digestive issues in the US alone. The supplements doTERRA offers were created to keep the various components of the digestive system functioning at their best. Here’s how to use essential oils to help you naturally so that you don’t reach for those dangerous over the counter pharmaceutical products or go to the doctor for yet another prescription.

How to use essential oils for indigestion and Gastroinestinal health

DigestZen® Softgels

When you want to simply take the DigestZen blend to ease queasiness or soothe stomach discomfort after trying new foods, the softgels are a great option because you don’t have to fill your own veggie capsule. At two drops per capsule, you can take one softgel as needed.

Suggested Use:

  • Take after enjoying a meal to promote digestion.
  • When traveling or trying new foods take to soothe occasional stomach discomfort.
  • Take with water or tea to maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract.

DigestTab®

This chewable tablet is specifically designed for individuals with sensitive stomachs. Formulated with calcium carbonate, DigestTab works to neutralize and reduce acid. Ginger, Peppermint, Caraway, Coriander, Anise, Tarragon, and Fennel essential oils soothe and support the digestive system, and complete the list of ingredients.

Suggested Use:

  • Use as needed for relief from occasional upset stomach and heartburn.
  • Take one tablet to provide relief from the occasional acid indigestion and can help reduce unwanted belching and bloating.

DigestZen TerraZyme®

Metabolic enzymes are produced by your body and taken from the food you eat. Your body needs plenty of digestive enzymes to digest food and to help cells convert nutrients into energy. However, the processed, cooked, and preservative-laden foods in the modern diet are often enzyme deficient. TerraZyme contains a blend of active whole-food enzymes and supporting cofactors to make up the difference.

Suggested Use:

  • Take one to three capsules with meals. Adjust the amount depending on what you’re eating—if you’re eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, take one. If you’re eating something more highly processed, take three.

GX Assist®

Known as the natural way to cleanse, GX Assist was created with both caprylic acid and essential oils. These ingredients create an unfriendly environment in your digestive tract to potential threats that cause digestive issues.

Suggested Use:

  • On a quarterly basis take one to three softgels with meals. Use for 10 days before starting PB Assist®+. Do not take at the same time as PB Assist+.

PB Assist®+

It’s no secret that probiotics are great for your gut. With them your digestive system, (not to mention your immune system), can function at its best. PB Assist+ is a combination of pre-biotics and probiotics to encourage the growth of good bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. It also can support your metabolism and better absorption of nutrients from food. The capsule has been specifically designed with a time-release, double layered system to protect the probiotics from stomach acid.

Suggested Uses:

  • If using on its own, take one capsule three times daily with meals for 10 days each month.
  • If taking as part of a quarterly cleanse after GX Assist, take three capsules a day for five days, and then one capsule a day for 15 days.
  • When your digestive system has been compromised by digestive stressors, PB Assist is safe to take more frequently or for longer periods of time.

PB Assist® Jr.

This is a probiotic powder for kids, and it is also great for adults that find swallowing pills challenging. It contains 5 billion live cells from six probiotic strains, along with prebiotic FOS. Why give a child probiotics? Consuming probiotics during childhood has been shown to balance their microflora and support long-term well-being. And, just like in the adult version, PB Assist Jr. supports both the digestive and immune systems, as well as metabolism and nutrient absorption.

Suggested Use:

  • Consume one sachet daily directly in mouth, or in cold water, juice, or yogurt. Do not mix with hot water.

Zendocrine® Softgels

Formulated with essential oils, the softgels are designed to support the liver and detoxification of the body’s systems. The body is naturally able to rid itself of unwanted substances; Zendocrine is intended to support this process. Each softgel contains 2 drops of the Zendocrine blend.

Suggested Use:

  • Take one softgel two to three times daily.

Zendocrine® Detoxification Complex

Instead of essential oils, the complex is made up of herbs that traditionally support the liver and detoxification. It affects the body through a different mechanism than the Zendocrine softgels, and you can experience different benefits than the softgels for that reason. We recommend trying both to see which works best for you.

Suggested Use:

  • To support the cleansing organs, take two capsules daily (one in the morning and one in the evening) for an entire month. Repeat every three to four months.

natural remedies for upset tummies

It’s hard being a parent when your kids (oops children, mine keep telling me they are not baby goats) are not feeling well. Help is at hand.  Over the past couple of years I have learnt how to use essential oils to safely and effectively help my children with the symptoms of their illness, and importantly to reduce the number of pharmaceutical products we use! I rarely visit the pharmacy anymore and my hip pocket is dancing a happy dance!

Easy Air essential oil (known as Breathe in the USA) are your reasons to throw that disgusting tub of Vicks in the bin. This is an all natural product which is actually safe to put on your children. It doesn’t have toxic ingredients unlike other products we have grown up using. It contains Eucalyptus Leaf Oil, Laurel Leaf Oil, Peppermint Oil, Menthol,  Melaleuca Leaf Oil, Lemon Peel Oil, Ravensara Leaf Oil and Cardamom Seed Oil.

This video explains how you can use the essential oil and the the vapour stick. It also comes in a handy rollerball, which I prefer to carry in my handbag. I use the oil in the diffuser and the stick on the children at night and before school when they are congested.  Personally, as soon as I lie down at night, my nose gets blocked, so I use the rollerball and rub it underneath my nose for immediate impact.

Natural remedies for Upset tummies:

Digestion is one thing that we all know impacts our lives, but we don’t really talk about it until it’s too late and we, or our loved ones, are running to the bathroom with digestive issues. This is a product that I have personally resisted using, but my kids love. When Hamish has an upset tummy, he will specifically ask to use this and have it massaged into his tummy. He also likes it in the diffuser. Why does he like it? Because it works.  (We also use it on his tummy on those days that he’s feeling anxious about school, and the anxious feelings are showing as an upset tummy- I’ll rub the oil into his belly button and he’ll be feeling back to normal by the time he goes to school. He knows now, that I know when he’s trying to stay at home, and that I will take his complaint seriously and he can stay at home if sick, but if it’s anxious feelings, then it’s best to put the oil on, and see if he wants to talk about it. Often I find it is a bit of separation anxiety).

DigestZen is known as doTERRA’s “tummy tamer” blend due to its ability to aid in digestion, soothe occasional stomach upset, and maintain overall digestive health.* This unique blend contains Ginger, Fennel, and Coriander to help ease occasional stomach discomfort, including motion sickness and indigestion, while Peppermint, Tarragon, Anise, and Caraway aid with digestion and help maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract.* DigestZen is great to have on hand when stomach upset occurs and is safe and effective. DigestZen is a healthy, natural, and gentle way to soothe an upset stomach or maintain a healthy digestive system.*

I don’t have a partner, but if you do, and they love to relax with a beer, but it gives them the burps or flatulence, then this is the product for them. You’ll be surprised at the results. If your partner is not adventurous to take a drop in a glass of water, rub it in the soles of the feet, or convince them that a stomach massage of the oil in a tablespoon of carrier oil will provide them with instant relief.
