What is Perimenopause?

If you’ve landed on this page, you’re probably over 35 and wondering if you are in Perimenopause. AND you’ve got a lot of questions that need answering. Welcome, you’re in the right place.

Perimenopause is simply, the time in which your body transitions from producing estrogen and being able to release an egg and potentially create life, to the time when you have not had a period for 12 months, known as menopause.

It’s also the time when your body reduces its production of testosterone, progesterone, and melatonin.

We tend to think that “menopause” HAPPENS to OLD women. You know, women older than us. Much older. Somewhere in between your age and your mother’s age right?

Well honey, perimenopause “happens” to all women over the age of 35, at the time that their body decides is right. It’s a bit like getting your period. Your friends may have had their first period before you. Or maybe you were the leader of the pack and the storer of wisdom about pads and tampons and how to use them.

Well, now it’s your time to be the sharer of wisdom about what happens to all women when their body transitions from life-giver, to wisdom provider.

It’s time we educated women about what happens to their bodies and their mind during the wisdom years. It’s time that every woman had access to both medical and NON-medical professionals, as well as women from every walk of life to talk to, ask questions unashamedly and share experiences.

Break the Taboo community catch up

If you’re located in Brisbane, Australia, we have in-person sessions where we get together, chat about menopause and perimenopause and play Menopause Monopoly, share a bite to eat and have a “make and take” session where we make room sprays to help us sleep; hot flush sprays and other items a gal in perimenopause needs. There’s a lot of laughs and a-ha’s from participants, and it’s an event that you will want to bring a girlfriend along to.

Let’s face it, chatting with a girlfriend over a cuppa or a glass of wine is a whole lot more interesting than booking a 15-minute session with your GP. Don’t get me wrong, the GP has their importance in your life, however, sometimes you just need to hang with the gals and find out what the real deal is.
